The Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 for a period of 30 days, implementing strict restrictions on various activities. The order prohibits pillion riding, the wearing of masks while riding, and all types of public gatherings. These measures are aimed at maintaining law and order amid the current situation in the region.
According to a notification issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), the restrictions came into effect from November 5 and will remain in place for a month. The order explicitly bans gatherings of more than five individuals, as well as rallies and public assemblies, in an effort to curb unrest and ensure safety.
In addition to the restrictions, communication services in several parts of Balochistan have been disrupted. Internet access remains suspended in Mastung, while residents in Quetta reported renewed outages after a brief period of restoration earlier in the day. These blackouts have raised concerns among the public and rights groups alike.
Human rights organizations and journalists have criticized the use of Section 144 and the extended communication blackouts, arguing that such measures limit freedom of assembly and restrict access to vital information. Citizens have also voiced worries that ongoing enforcement of these restrictions will cause further disruptions to daily life and lead to widespread hardship across the region.
