The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) expressed concerns on Thursday regarding the continued imprisonment of several of its senior leaders. The group highlighted that these leaders have been in custody for nearly a year, raising alarms about the fairness and independence of the judicial process. The BYC emphasized the importance of timely legal proceedings and transparent trials, especially in cases with political implications.
According to the statement, leaders including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Shaji Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, and Beebow Baloch were initially detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO). They were held without trial for a period of three months, which the group described as an unjust detention. The BYC argued that such extended pre-trial detention without proper legal process violates fundamental rights.
After the expiration of the MPO detention period, the authorities reportedly filed charges against the leaders, which the BYC characterized as “politically motivated.” The group alleged that these charges were designed to suppress political dissent and keep the leaders in custody unlawfully. Despite the charges being bailable in many cases, the leaders remained in detention due to procedural delays.
The BYC pointed out that repeated physical remands, delays in investigation reports, and various procedural hurdles had obstructed the leaders’ release. Although investigations in several cases had been completed and charge sheets submitted to the courts, the delay in legal proceedings persisted. The group condemned these tactics as an abuse of judicial processes aimed at prolonging detention.
The statement further revealed that the High Court heard bail applications on December 17, 2025, and reserved judgment. However, nearly three months passed without any decision being issued. It was only on February 23 that the court disposed of the applications, ordering the cases to proceed to trial. The BYC criticized this lengthy delay, asserting it amounted to a denial of liberty for the detained leaders.
In conclusion, the BYC called for urgent reforms in the judicial process to ensure justice is delivered promptly and transparently. The group demanded equal application of bail principles, independence of the judiciary, and decisions free from external pressure. They reiterated that “justice delayed is justice denied,” emphasizing the need for fair and timely legal proceedings in political cases.
