Dr. Mahrang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has issued a strong condemnation regarding the targeted killing of Shah Jan Baloch in the Naal area of Khuzdar, Balochistan. Shah Jan Baloch, who was the brother of Zahid Baloch—former chairman of the Baloch Student Organisation (BSO) and a victim of enforced disappearance was brutally murdered in broad daylight on March 15, 2025.
Mahrang Baloch emphasized that Shah Jan had no political affiliations and was not involved in any human rights activities; he was simply a local businessman and the sole provider for his family. She expressed that the only “crime” Shah Jan committed was being related to a student leader who has been missing for the past eleven years, allegedly under the custody of Pakistani intelligence agencies.
The statement further pointed out that state violence against the Baloch community extends beyond merely silencing dissent; it targets the families of those associated with the Baloch movement, irrespective of their direct involvement in activism or politics. Mahrang Baloch noted that for the past two decades, there has not been a single day in Balochistan free from enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, or targeted assassinations.
She highlighted a grim statistic, revealing that over three dozen individuals have been extrajudicially killed in Balochistan just in the first three months of 2025. ” Shah Jan Baloch was ruthlessly targeted and murdered in Khuzdar,” she stated.
Mahrang Baloch criticized the repetitive cycle of issuing condemnation statements, arguing that these gestures fail to trigger genuine change or deliver real justice. Instead, she views them as tools employed by powerful state authorities to distract from their own failures and brutal actions.
She reiterated that true transformation can only occur when the rule of law is upheld and accountability is sought. Regrettably, she pointed out, Balochistan’s authorities seem more focused on producing empty condemnations rather than enacting effective measures to combat the underlying causes of violence in the region.
In her concluding remarks, she urged the Baloch community to remain vigilant against external influences, particularly those who, indifferent to the Baloch people’s suffering, attempt to dictate the narrative of their struggle or demand mere symbolic condemnations.
Mahrang Baloch reaffirmed the significance of resilience among the Baloch people, especially those who live in constant fear of their loved ones disappearing. She believes that as long as the community persists in its quest for self-determination and accountability, the world will inevitably acknowledge Balochistan’s peaceful struggle for justice and change. She encouraged the Baloch nation to forge their own path rather than heed the advice of those disconnected from their plight.
