The troubling pattern of enforced disappearances continues in Balochistan, with several new abductions reported from different regions. Over the past few days, Pakistani forces have forcibly arrested and disappeared multiple individuals.
On December 6, four individuals were forcibly vanished by Pakistani forces in the Panjgur district. Those missing have been identified as Khalil Siddique, Abdul Shakur Saleh, Arshad Rafiq, and Waseem, son of Mohammad Hashim. Local sources report that the men were taken during a house-to-house raid in Parom, and since their detention, there has been no word on their whereabouts or condition.
According to local reports, the missing individuals were laborers, several of whom worked as drivers in the oil sector. In response to the abductions, residents of the Parom area have announced a sit-in protest in front of the Frontier Corps (FC) camp, demanding the immediate release of their missing loved ones.
In their statement, the residents allege that late last night, Pakistani forces surrounded the area, conducted raids on homes, destroyed property, looted valuables, and subjected the residents to violence. The families of the missing individuals, along with the local community, have issued an ultimatum to the forces and local administration: if their loved ones are not released by tonight, they will block the FC camp at Rishpesh at 9 AM the following day, staging a sit-in that will continue until the missing individuals are freed. They warned that any damage caused during the protest would be the responsibility of the authorities.
In a separate incident on December 5, Zahid Mustafa, a student at Gwadar University, was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces. Zahid, who was studying data science, was abducted late at night from his home by a group of soldiers, some in uniform and others in plain clothes. Reports indicate that the forces scaled the walls of Zahid’s residence, detaining him despite resistance from his family, who were allegedly beaten with rifle butts, with shots fired during the raid.
The family of Zahid Mustafa, along with human rights groups, is demanding an immediate cessation of enforced disappearances and the release of Zahid and all others held under similar conditions.
Earlier this week, on December 3 and 4, Pakistani forces also detained two individuals from the coastal communities of Gwadar and Pasni, identified as Munawar son of Qarar and Zakaria son of Allah Bakhsh. Munawar was taken from Pasni during a raid on December 4, while Zakaria was abducted from Gatti Dhor in Gwadar on December 3.
As this report is being filed, the whereabouts of all the abducted individuals remain unknown, further compounding the community’s fears and frustrations.
