On Tuesday, the family of Dr. Abdul Hayee Baloch, who was reportedly forcibly disappeared by Pakistani authorities, organized a protest in Quetta advocating for his immediate return.
The demonstration began at Balochistan University and made its way through the city, concluding at the Quetta Press Club. The event saw a large turnout, with many participants holding photos of their missing relatives and chanting slogans against enforced disappearances.
Dr. Baloch’s sister, Bakhtawar Baloch, spoke to the crowd, voicing her profound distress over her brother’s situation. She revealed that Dr. Baloch, an Operating Theatre Assistant at Awaran District Hospital, was taken by state forces on June 1, 2024. Despite the passage of three months, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Bakhtawar Baloch called on authorities to either bring her brother to court if there are charges against him or to release him if he is innocent. She urged the government to ease the family’s suffering by ensuring Dr. Baloch’s safe return.
Other families of individuals who have been forcibly disappeared in Balochistan joined the protest, sharing similar sentiments. They criticized the government’s offer of financial compensation, arguing that it does not fulfill their call for justice.
The protesters emphasized that their fight is for the safe return of their loved ones, not for monetary compensation.
