Twenty unidentified bodies laid to rest in Quetta under Chhipa Foundation supervision

Twenty unidentified bodies, which had been lying at Quetta’s Civil Hospital for several days, were officially declared unclaimed and subsequently buried under the supervision of the Chhipa Foundation. The burial took place at the Dasht Tera Meel graveyard, with officials from relevant departments and volunteers of the charitable organization present to oversee the process. This event highlights the ongoing issue of unclaimed and unidentified remains resulting from the security situation in the region.

According to sources from the hospital and local community, four of the twenty bodies had been transported from Mangocher, an area that has experienced a series of recent security operations. These four individuals were identified as Gul Khan alias Yaseen, Inayatullah, Izzatullah, and Shay Murad. Despite efforts, the remaining sixteen bodies remained unidentified, emphasizing the persistent challenge of identifying victims in such circumstances.

Security operations in Balochistan have long been a contentious issue, with many local and human rights organizations criticizing the methods used by security forces. These groups often describe the operations as “fake encounters” or extrajudicial killings, raising concerns over the violation of human rights and the lack of accountability. Families of missing persons frequently allege that their loved ones have been forcibly disappeared and later found as unidentified bodies in morgues or remote burial sites.

Baloch nationalist parties and various human rights organizations have repeatedly voiced their apprehensions regarding systematic violence against civilians in the region. They accuse Pakistani security forces of targeting non-combatants during military operations and staging encounters to eliminate individuals suspected of militancy or opposition. Such allegations have fueled widespread concern over the human rights situation and the conduct of security agencies in Balochistan.

Authorities, however, maintain that the bodies buried recently belonged to militants killed during security operations, including some involved in the recent attack on the Frontier Corps headquarters in Quetta. The government asserts that these deaths are the result of targeted military actions against insurgents, though critics continue to call for transparency and accountability in addressing the broader issues of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
