Security alerts lead to suspension of public transport and internet services across Balochistan

Authorities in Balochistan have imposed a suspension on public transport and shut down mobile internet services across the region in response to multiple threat alerts issued in several districts. The security measures aim to prevent potential attacks and maintain law and order amid ongoing threats. The restrictions include a halt to 3G and 4G mobile internet services in 36 districts from 10 to 16 November 2025, disrupting communication and daily activities for residents and businesses alike.

The affected districts include major cities and strategic areas such as Quetta, Gwadar, Chaman, Khuzdar, Turbat, Kalat, Lasbela, Mastung, Naseerabad, Sibi, Zhob, Harnai, Panjgur, Kech, Kachhi, Sorab, Kohlu, Dukki, Killa Saifullah, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Barkhan, Awaran, Jaffarabad, Musakhel, Kharan, Ziarat, Dalbandin, Noshki, Usta Muhammad, Washuk, Bolan, Jhal Magsi, Hub, and Dera Bugti. The decision to suspend services was officially announced by authorities, citing security concerns and the intention to prevent any escalation of violence during this tense period.

In addition to the internet shutdown, the Balochistan Transport Authority has announced a temporary ban on intercity transportation from 12 to 14 November 2025. This measure was taken on the directives of the provincial Home and Transport Departments, emphasizing the ongoing law and order challenges. All regional transport authorities have been instructed to enforce the suspension strictly, highlighting the urgency and critical nature of the security situation. The restriction aims to prevent movement that could potentially facilitate militant activities or attacks.

In Khuzdar district, authorities have ordered the closure of all banks in the Nall tehsil due to security threats, further illustrating the heightened state of alert. Meanwhile, in Dera Bugti, local officials have issued a high-level threat alert, warning of possible coordinated attacks by militant groups such as the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) and the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF). These groups are reportedly planning joint operations, with the BRA establishing three camps supported by the BLF, which is also accused of supplying weapons and ammunition to its allies.

Following the threat alerts, security forces have increased their checks and monitoring efforts at key entry and exit points throughout Dera Bugti. Authorities are on high alert, taking measures to prevent any militant activities that could threaten civilians or government infrastructure. The security situation remains tense, with officials closely monitoring developments and preparing for possible escalation of violence in the coming days.

Analysts and officials believe these security measures are linked to the upcoming observance of “Baloch Martyrs’ Day” on 13 November, an event historically associated with militant activity and security incidents in Balochistan. The suspension of internet services and transport is viewed as a precautionary step to prevent attacks during this sensitive period. Civil society representatives and local residents have criticized the restrictions, calling them a severe restriction on access to information and communication, though authorities maintain that these actions are necessary for security reasons. Similar measures have been implemented in the past during periods of heightened tension in the region.
