London: Sorath Lohar, Convenor of the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS), along with Sarang Sindhi, Representative of the Voice for Sindhi Missing Persons – Europe Chapter, has issued a strong condemnation of the enforced disappearance of Muhammad Bakhsh Sajedi. Sajedi is a retired Deputy Commissioner and the father of Dr. Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM). The organizations expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
In their joint statement, VMPS emphasized that the disappearance of a senior citizen and former government officer is a grave violation of human rights. Reports indicate that Muhammad Bakhsh Sajedi was forcibly disappeared on 2 February from Hub, Balochistan. Additionally, his brother Naeem Sajedi and Engineer Rafiq Baloch, the former Chief Engineer of Sui Gas Balochistan, are also believed to have been taken and disappeared at the same time.
The organizations described the incident as inhuman and unlawful. They condemned the detention of elderly individuals without any legal warrants and the simultaneous disappearance of multiple family members. Such actions are considered serious violations of both national and international laws, amounting to enforced disappearances and collective punishment.
The statement highlighted that Balochistan has long been plagued by thousands of enforced disappearance cases, reflecting a worsening human rights crisis in the region. The VMPS noted that these practices are a clear indication of the ongoing targeting and victimization of peaceful citizens by authorities.
VMPS also pointed out that Sindh faces a similar crisis, with many Sindhi political activists and civilians missing for years. The organization underscored the importance of solidarity between Sindhi and Baloch communities in their fight against enforced disappearances and state repression.
The Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh called on international human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), Human Rights Watch, and the International Coalition Against Enforced Disappearances (ICAED) to intervene urgently. They stressed the need for immediate action to ensure the safe and swift recovery of all forcibly disappeared persons, reaffirming that enforced disappearances constitute crimes against humanity that must be halted without delay.
