The Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) held a press conference in Mastung on Wednesday, highlighting their serious concerns regarding the escalating drug problem in Balochistan. Committee representatives accused state authorities of facilitating drug trafficking, noting that it has become particularly acute in areas such as Mastung’s Derengarh and Parangabad, where open drug dealing is allegedly flourishing.
Once renowned for its rich cultural and literary heritage, Mastung is now increasingly associated with drug-related activities, according to the BYC. The representatives criticized local law enforcement and administrative bodies for their silence on this pressing issue, claiming that residents of not only Mastung but also neighboring regions like Nushki and Quetta are flocking to these areas to consume drugs, while authorities remain inactive.
The committee condemned the indifference displayed by police and other law enforcement agencies, pointing out the paradox of regular raids and enforced disappearances across Balochistan, contrasted with the lack of effective action against drug dealers and other pressing societal challenges. They alleged that state institutions are willfully neglecting the social issues affecting the Baloch community, instead prioritizing punitive measures.
The BYC called on the public to identify and report drug dealers to local police, asserting that this issue transcends mere concern and amounts to what they describe as a “genocide” against the Baloch people. They urged for unity and a collective struggle to confront this crisis and protect the future of the Baloch nation.
Additionally, the committee warned that if authorities fail to address public grievances, they would escalate the matter to international forums. They reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding their community from this menace, pledging to mobilize and intensify their efforts toward achieving a drug-free Balochistan.
The committee representatives concluded by urging the public to voice their concerns and work together to combat the spread of drugs. They demanded that everyone work together to eradicate what they describe as a deadly disease that is endangering the foundation of their community.
