The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has announced that it has taken complete control of Zehri, a tehsil in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district, following a coordinated assault on Wednesday. According to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the group seized various government institutions and set the local police station ablaze.
Local sources report that a significant number of armed fighters entered Zehri early in the day, overtaking key government buildings, including the police station, NADRA office, and a bank. The fighters were observed patrolling the streets, establishing blockades on the Balbal-Zehri and Transan roads, while securing strategic positions in and around the town.
Witnesses indicated that the police station was burned after the fighters confiscated weapons and ammunition, and later in the day, the NADRA office was also set on fire. Baloch fighters reportedly announced their control over Zehri using loudspeakers at local mosques, advising residents to avoid government installations.
Helicopters were seen conducting surveillance flights over the area, but reports suggest that the fighters maintained control of the main bazaar, nearby hills, and had established security checkpoints.
Regional police officials, including DIG Police Khuzdar Sohail Khalid, confirmed the incident but remarked that it was too early to provide detailed information, noting that a high-level meeting was taking place to assess the situation. As of late Wednesday, intense clashes continued in the Sunni area of Zehri between Pakistani forces and the BLA. Explosions and gunfire were reported, including assaults on security forces’ vehicles arriving from Khuzdar near Kochu, which is adjacent to Zehri City, although losses have yet to be confirmed.
The BLA has stated that it will release a more comprehensive statement regarding the attack soon. Authorities had not provided additional updates at the time of publication.
