The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) on Tuesday strongly condemned the recent bombing and shelling in Balochistan’s Barkhan district, describing it as a form of “collective punishment.” The group highlighted that civilians, including women and children, were killed during the operation, which they termed as deeply tragic and condemnable.
In their statement, the BYC alleged that the indiscriminate shelling had targeted a densely populated area, resulting in significant civilian casualties. The organization expressed concern over the disproportionate use of force, emphasizing that such actions have devastating effects on innocent lives and communities.
The casualties included individuals from various age groups and families. The BYC identified the deceased as Ali, son of Sultan Umair (40); Beebel, daughter of Gulzar (30); Mir Jan, son of Ali (2); Somri, daughter of Bhangaan (35); Balach, son of Sabzo (70); Shari (22); Rahman, son of Balach (18); Naikho, daughter of Jamalan (17); Allah Bakhsh, son of Balach (6); Sado, daughter of Balach (13); Hapo, daughter of Balach (8); and Mahrang (2).
The group further reported that several individuals were seriously injured in the attack, including Zar Bibi, daughter of Sher (55); Hazar Khan, son of Balach (9); and Isra, daughter of Baloch (15). The injuries have added to the toll of suffering among the local population affected by the incident.
BYC spokesperson stated that this incident was not isolated but part of a disturbing pattern of collective targeting in the region. They condemned the approach of enveloping entire areas in response to a single security incident, which often results in the loss of innocent lives.
The committee emphasized that such measures violate constitutional and international principles. They warned that collective punishment fosters hatred, mistrust, and deprivation within society, undermining efforts for peace and justice. The BYC expressed solidarity with the victims and called for accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.
