A disturbing trend of enforced disappearances has emerged in Balochistan, with eight individuals from various districts reported missing. The victims, including shepherds, residents, and a young man, were allegedly taken into custody by Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies, leaving their families in a state of distress and uncertainty.
In the Awaran district, two brothers, Musafir Pasran and Ilahi Bakhsh, were forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces after being taken into custody from their village, Tank Harkshan, in the Mashkay Tehsil. Their brother, Garebo, had been detained a week earlier and remains missing. Another individual, Akhtar Mohammad, from Zahidabad in the same tehsil, was also taken into custody and disappeared around the same time as Garebo.
In the Panjgur district, a raid by Pakistani intelligence agencies and security forces resulted in the detention of three residents: Yasir, son of Yaseen, Hayat, son of Wali Mohammad, and Jaleel, son of Abdul Khaliq. The men were taken into custody on January 19, 2025, at 5 AM, and their families have not been informed of the reasons for their detention or their current whereabouts.
In the Kech district, a new case of forced disappearance has been reported from the village of Minaaz in the Buleda Tehsil. Siraj Baloch, son of Nasrullah, was abducted by Pakistani forces on January 11, 2025, and has since been missing.
However, in a rare positive development, a previously disappeared young man, Israr, son of Ataullah, has been released after being taken into custody by Pakistani forces from the Tump-Konshkalat area of Kech on March 12, 2023. Additionally, Mohammad Atif, who had been reported missing from Nokshki, has been found and returned home, with his family confirming his recovery.
The continued enforced disappearances in Balochistan have raised concerns about human rights violations and the lack of accountability within the Pakistani security forces. The families of the missing individuals are urges the authorities to provide information about their loved ones’ whereabouts and to ensure their safe return.
