Family members of two young men allegedly subjected to enforced disappearance and later killed in custody by Pakistani forces are currently holding a peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Turbat, the main city of Balochistan’s Kech district. The families are demanding answers and justice for their loved ones, whose fates remain uncertain despite official claims.
Saifullah, a 20-year-old resident of Kech, was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces on April 20, 2025. The family reported his disappearance to the Deputy Commissioner of Kech on April 23 but received no response. When they followed up again on June 13, they were informed that Saifullah had been killed in an alleged armed clash on April 29 and had already been buried, though the location of his grave was not disclosed to the family.
Similarly, Shahjahan was detained by Pakistani forces on April 14, 2025. His family was kept in the dark about his whereabouts for nearly two months. On June 13, they were told that Shahjahan had also been killed in a reported encounter and buried without informing the family or revealing the burial site, raising questions about the official account of events.
Both families strongly reject the official version, asserting that their loved ones were held in state custody after their enforced disappearances and were extrajudicially killed. They demand transparency regarding the circumstances of the deaths and the location of the bodies, emphasizing their refusal to accept the narrative of armed clashes.
Local residents have joined the families in a peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, calling for justice and accountability. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee condemned the killings, describing them as part of an ongoing campaign of Baloch genocide. The group expressed solidarity with the families and reiterated the urgent need for transparency and justice concerning enforced disappearances and custodial deaths in Balochistan.
