Fishermen in Gwadar have organized a protest in response to new restrictions imposed by the Fisheries Department. These rules require fishermen to obtain prior approval from Pakistani security forces and relevant authorities before entering coastal waters. The fishermen argue that these measures are unnecessary and unjustified, and they are concerned about the impact on their livelihoods.
The protesters emphasized that the new restrictions would have a severe negative effect on their income and threaten the well-being of thousands of fishing families. They rely heavily on fishing as their primary source of livelihood, and any limitations on access to fishing areas could push many into economic hardship. This has sparked widespread frustration among the local fishing community.
According to a recent public notice from the Gwadar Fisheries Department, all boat owners, operators, and fishermen are instructed not to enter coastal waters without prior permission from Pakistani security authorities. The department also warned that anyone found violating this directive could face legal action under applicable laws, further escalating tensions between fishermen and authorities.
The protesting fishermen argued that the sea is their only source of income and livelihood. They expressed their disapproval of any further restrictions on access to fishing grounds, deeming them unacceptable. The fishermen called on the government and relevant security agencies to reconsider the decision and to engage in dialogue with the fishing community to find a mutually acceptable solution.
The demonstrators issued a warning that if the restrictions are not withdrawn or eased, they will escalate their protests. They have threatened to expand their campaign to ensure their grievances are heard and addressed, asserting that their livelihoods must be protected from such restrictive measures.
