In a recent press conference, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), claimed that the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) is acting as a “proxy for terrorist organizations and criminal mafias.” The BYC has vehemently rejected these accusations, asserting that their efforts represent a peaceful campaign advocating for Baloch rights.
During the press briefing held in Rawalpindi, Chaudhry alleged that the BYC is attempting to undermine state authority by drawing crowds through foreign funding and disseminating propaganda against law enforcement agencies. He accused the group of working to tarnish the reputation of state entities dedicated to combating smuggling, criminal activities, and disruptions to development projects in Balochistan.
Chaudhry described the Baloch National Gathering, organized by the BYC, as a “drama” meant to incite unrest in the region. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to continuing operations against all forms of sabotage and extremism.
In response, the BYC issued a press release labeling the military’s claims as “baseless.” They argued that the military is attempting to undermine their peaceful movement while deflecting attention from the legitimate grievances of the Baloch populace. “Being proxies is a tradition of the military, not ours,” the BYC stated, asserting that their struggle is founded on principles and the support of the Baloch people, rather than foreign backing.
The spokesperson for the BYC further claimed that the military’s statements are an acknowledgment of its involvement in what they term Baloch genocide and human rights violations. The BYC called for the establishment of an inquiry committee involving a neutral third party or human rights organization to investigate their alleged ties. “If any of your allegations are proven, we will present ourselves in any court in Pakistan or the world,” they declared. Conversely, they challenged the military to admit its role in Baloch genocide if the allegations against the BYC remain unproven.
The BYC emphasized that the military’s press conference only reinforces their claims and is an admission of guilt. They criticized the military’s historical pattern of characterizing genuine political movements as foreign-funded to suppress dissent. “The military fails to understand that it is not 1970, where false propaganda and deceit can keep the public and the international community in the dark,” they argued.
Declaring their movement against “Baloch genocide” as a purely peaceful public political initiative, the BYC pledged to intensify their struggle and not back down in the face of military pressure. “We will organize and intensify our struggle against Baloch genocide further and will end the Baloch genocide from Baloch land through the power of the people,” the group affirmed.
