Pakistani armed forces reportedly opened fire on two young men who had gone for a picnic in Balochistan’s Kech district, resulting in the death of one and injury to the other, according to local residents. The incident took place on Wednesday, raising concerns among the community about safety and the increasing use of force in the region.
The residents identified the deceased as Ismail, the son of Ibrahim, and the injured individual as Nauman, the son of Haidar. They reported that Nauman was detained by Pakistani forces following the incident, and his current condition remains unknown, as no official information has been released regarding his health or whereabouts.
Pakistani authorities have yet to comment or issue any statement regarding the incident. The lack of official response has further fueled tension and uncertainty among residents, who are demanding transparency and accountability for such actions by security forces.
In recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in similar incidents across Balochistan. One such event occurred in late October when a drone strike in the Chiltan Mountains near Quetta injured at least nine civilians. Hospital officials and local residents confirmed that the victims were civilians, although the Pakistani military claimed the strike targeted militants.
Hospital staff described the injured as men suffering from shrapnel wounds, identifying them as Jahanzeb Muhammad Shahi, Muhammad Imran Sumalani, Maqbool Ahmed, Zahid, Manzoor Ahmed, Daulat Khan, Arbab, Rafeeq Lehri, and Wajid Ali. Residents in Kech’s Buleda area have also reported similar incidents where civilians enjoying leisure activities were fired upon, indicating a troubling pattern of violence that is becoming increasingly frequent in the region.
