Authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in Khadkocha, a sub-tehsil of Mastung district, further intensifying movement restrictions already in place in various parts of Balochistan. The curfew was enforced at 8:00 pm on Wednesday and will remain in effect until further notice, according to official sources. The move marks a significant escalation in security measures aimed at controlling unrest in the region.
The Balochistan Home Department issued a statement explaining that the curfew was imposed to “maintain peace and public safety.” Under this order, residents are prohibited from leaving their homes, and all unnecessary movement within the area has been banned. The authorities warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating these curfew restrictions.
A spokesperson for the Home Department emphasized that the measure was necessary to restore stability in Khadkocha. However, local residents have expressed fears and anger, with reports alleging that some residents have been warned they could be shot if they attempt to leave their homes during the curfew hours. These warnings have heightened tensions and concerns among community members.
The curfew follows a major attack in Khadkocha on July 16, which was later claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army. The armed group reported that their coordinated assault resulted in the deaths of 62 Pakistani military personnel, including three officers. The attack targeted a convoy, its security escort, and reinforcements, prompting a heavy security crackdown in the area.
This latest order is part of a broader pattern of restrictions across Balochistan, where security forces have imposed curfews, road closures, and movement bans following attacks by Baloch pro-independence armed groups. These measures aim to curb insurgent activities but have also severely affected civilian life in the region.
Similar restrictions have persisted for several months in districts such as Noshki and Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar. Local sources report that Pakistani forces have restricted residents’ movement, often barring travel without prior permission. These prolonged curfews have disrupted daily life, making it difficult for residents to access essential services and supplies.
Residents and local political groups have criticized these restrictions, arguing that they amount to collective punishment. They say that the restrictions have severely impacted access to food, healthcare, and other vital services. Many have called for an end to these measures, asserting that they violate basic human rights and lack legal justification.
In Jiwani, restrictions imposed after the July 3 attack by the BLA’s Majeed Brigade on a Pakistan Coast Guards camp continue to be enforced. Local sources report that the Pakistani forces have set specific entry and exit timings for the coastal town. Residents are only permitted to enter or leave Jiwani between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, and again from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
These travel restrictions have had a significant impact on daily life in Jiwani. Residents say that their work, education, and access to medical treatment have been severely disrupted. The measures, they argue, constitute collective punishment, and no court order or clear legal justification has been provided to the public to support these restrictions.
