November 13th will always be enshrined with golden words in the history of Balochistan. The day when our martyrs laid down their lives for the honour of their nation, for the love of their motherland and for the rights of the upcoming generations. The day when the foundation to revolt and revolution was laid by Mehrab Khan on November 13th, 1839 to protect the holy land of Balochistan from the enemies and the quest continues till today. November 13 is not just a day but a day of pledge of allegiance to Balochistan. November 13th is an effort to keep ourselves alive in history as a nation.
The day of loyalty, the day of devotion and respect, the day of remembering the sacrifices and vowing to give sacrifices. On November 13, 1839, Mir Mehrab Khan along with his companions sacrificed their lives against the British imperialist occupation and paved the path for Baloch population to stand up for their due rights and gave way to liberty for their Baloch brethren for years to come. They raised their voice against illicit imperialist occupation. If we closely scrutinize the scenario today, it is evident that Pakistan has always been fearful of Baloch solidarity and it is till date. It’s said what cannot be done with force can be done through fear. For years, Pakistan has been abducting our people, killing them illegally and each year thousands of abductions go unaccounted for. Not alone this, to be a good servant to its master, Pakistan has been boot-licking China and providing them safe passage to plunder Baloch resources particularly from Duddar and Saindak mines which are deposits of tonnes of gold and copper. On one hand, where our Sui gas gets directly transferred to Punjab there, on the other hand, our mothers and sisters are still dependent on firewood. Be it disasters like the recent catastrophic floods or acute unavailability of educational and healthcare services, Pakistan goes missing when it comes to the Baloch crisis. Since time immemorial, they have been inflicting violence upon us, unabatedly. When Musharraf’s military dictatorship martyred Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in 2006, the experience made the Baloch nation aware that the peaceful struggle in Pakistan is a mere deception for the people which further awakened the Baloch and thousands of them began rebellion and armed struggle.
Not alone Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti but Shaheed Agha Abdul Karim to Shaheed Nawab Nowroz Khan, from Shaheed Ghulam Baloch to Karima Baloch and thousands of Baloch martyrs have offered and keep offering their precious lives to be freed from the shackles of slavery. The road is certainly bumpy, but the future is bright. We Baloch are known for our prowess and power and at each point of time we need to prove to the oppressor that we could withstand the tests of time. When Agha Abdul Kareem rose from Qalat, he paved the way for thousands of other Baloch who were ready to give the persecutor the taste of their own medicine. All great nations of the world today were once the colonies but through resistance and revolution, they traversed the trajectory towards freedom and liberty. Day-in and day-out our mothers and sisters wait endlessly for their husbands, fathers and sons to return but what they receive is only despair and utter disappointment.
Thus, 13th November is a reminder more than remembrance to us that even the mightiest of regimes could be overthrown with sheer solidarity and unity. Our martyrs have taught us to stand up for rights and snatch what’s meant to be ours. We do not want the same oppressed, dark future for our kids or the fearful days which we had spent. What we foresee is a bright, vibrant future for our forthcoming generation. A time where we’ll be having adequate resources and amenities and it can only happen with the reinforcement and support of our brethren. We haven’t forgotten the sacrifices of our martyrs nor have we forgiven the savagery of the oppressor. Each drop of the blood of the martyrs will be accounted for. Peace will prevail and the tyrant had to come down to his knees before our undaunted spirit.
