According to information received by Paank, the three students were taken from different locations in Karachi on 23 August 2026. Their whereabouts remain unknown. Paank calls on the Pakistani authorities, including the Sindh Rangers, to immediately disclose their whereabouts, ensure their safety and physical integrity, and provide their families with information concerning their legal status.
Enforced disappearance violates fundamental protections under international human rights law. It deprives individuals of recognition and protection before the law, undermines the right to liberty and security of person, and places detainees at serious risk of torture, ill-treatment and other violations.
The cases of Zubair Baloch, Qadeer Baloch and Saif Ud Deen Baloch must be addressed in accordance with Pakistan’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), particularly Article 9, which protects individuals against arbitrary arrest and detention and guarantees the right to challenge the lawfulness of detention before a court.
Paank urges the Pakistani authorities to treat the whereabouts and safety of these three students as an immediate human rights priority. Their families have the right to know where their loved ones are, and the students have the right to protection, due process and access to justice.
