Chairman of the Baloch National Movement, Dr. Naseem Baloch, has emphasized the Baloch nation’s strong resolve for independence, manifested through the rejection of what he deems as the sham Pakistani elections. Despite facing coercive measures from Pakistan, including military force, the Baloch people boycotted the elections to convey a resolute message that they refuse to participate in what they perceive as an occupiers’ forced electoral process.
Dr. Naseem Baloch asserted that elections in Pakistan are mere exercises in futility and mockery, historically lacking credibility and being manipulated for military objectives. The direct control of Balochistan by the army makes it nearly impossible to secure election victories without the army’s consent, resulting in elected individuals serving military interests and perpetuating repression. The Baloch people view these elected figures as complicit partners in the army’s alleged war crimes.
Highlighting the Baloch nation’s decision to boycott the 2013 elections, Dr. Naseem Baloch stated that it unequivocally expressed their desire for independence. Despite attempts by Pakistan to coerce participation through tactics such as blackmailing families of disappeared youths, the Baloch people remained steadfast in their lack of confidence in the Pakistani system.
The Chairman described Balochistan as a military garrison and extensive prison under Pakistani army control. Despite oppressive conditions, he commended the resilience and bravery of the Baloch people, emphasizing their courage in the face of military oppression as a testament to their unwavering spirit.
During polling, Baloch men and women protested vehemently, disrupting the election process and demanding justice for their loved ones in Pakistani torture cells. This collective rejection of Pakistani elections stands as a resounding referendum against what the Baloch people perceive as Pakistani occupation.
Dr. Naseem Baloch warned against a bloodthirsty enemy, acknowledging the long road ahead for their movement. However, he highlighted the increasing public awareness and conscious commitment to the cause, emphasizing that the Baloch nation has overcome the atmosphere of fear created by military oppression. He urged those complicit in Pakistan’s colonial crimes to recognize that they will be remembered with shame in the annals of Baloch history.
