On Friday, Zehri Bazaar saw a complete shutter-down strike in response to a violent incident in Khuzdar, where armed members of a so-called ‘death squad’ reportedly raided a home, assaulted its residents, and abducted a woman named Asma Jattak. This act of aggression has sparked significant outrage among local communities, leading to widespread protests.
In Khuzdar, family members and residents have organized a sit-in protest on the main highway that has persisted for over 29 hours, alongside a rally demanding the immediate recovery of Asma Jattak. This blockade has halted vehicular traffic, causing significant disruptions in the area and amplifying calls for justice.
Local sources indicate that the group behind the abduction operates with the support of former Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri. Allegations have emerged that these state-affiliated militias, known as ‘death squads’, are implicated in enforced disappearances, targeted killings of political dissidents, and illegal activities such as drug trafficking. Additionally, protests have erupted in Hub Chowki, another prominent area in Balochistan, where demonstrators are denouncing both Jattak’s abduction and the rampant lawlessness in the region. Despite the escalating public outcry, local authorities have yet to make any official statement regarding the incident.
