The incident, which took place in the early morning of Friday, July 7, 2023, highlights the urgent need to address the perilous situation faced by Baloch activists seeking refuge.
Abdul Hameed Baloch was arrested by German police and authorities, who notified him of his impending deportation to Pakistan. He was taken to the airport with a ticket bound for Lahore, Pakistan. Recognizing the imminent danger faced by Abdul Hameed Baloch, he urgently reached out to Mr. Taj Baloch, organizer of Baloch People’s Congress, who then contacted Mr. Munir Mengal, President of Baloch Voice Association, seeking immediate intervention to protect the activist’s life.
Responding to this urgent appeal, Baloch Voice Association collaborated with Abdul Hameed Baloch’s lawyer to draft a compelling case highlighting the imminent threat to his life if deported to Pakistan. Subsequently, a plea was submitted to the German authorities, emphasizing the gross violation of human rights suffered by Baloch activists and the need to provide them with a fair opportunity to present their case in a court of law.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the evidence presented by the Baloch Voice Association, the German authorities decided to reconsider Abdul Hameed Baloch’s case, requesting additional details and evidence. It is worth noting that prior to this incident, several Baloch political activists, including Jan Muhammad Baloch of Baloch National Movement, had been deported from Germany, which raised concerns about the violation of their fundamental human rights and the threat to their lives.
After thorough review and evaluation of the documentation provided by the Baloch Voice Association, the German authorities made the commendable decision to halt Abdul Hameed Baloch’s deportation, enabling him to pursue political asylum through the German judicial system. This significant development marks a crucial step in safeguarding the lives of Baloch political activists.
The plight of the Baloch people cannot be understated, with thousands of political activists having been unlawfully detained, tortured, and even killed by the Pakistani authorities. It is an egregious violation of human rights to deport Baloch activists to Pakistan, placing their lives at immediate risk. The efforts of Baloch People’s Congress and Baloch Voice Association in halting this deportation demonstrate the urgency and importance of addressing the safety and protection of Baloch political activists.
This successful intervention serves as a precedent, signalling the possibility of a brighter future for Baloch activists seeking refuge.
