A sit-in outside Bolan Medical College (BMC) in Quetta has entered its 12th day, as families and students continue to demand the recovery of nursing student Khadija Baloch. The protest has gained momentum as supporters persist in their call for justice and transparency regarding her disappearance.
According to family members, Khadija Baloch was taken from the BMC hostel by Pakistani armed forces, including personnel from the Frontier Corps and the Counter Terrorism Department. They allege that she was abducted in front of other students, which has heightened concerns about the circumstances of her disappearance.
The family claims she was forcibly dragged from the hostel and taken to an undisclosed location. Since then, her whereabouts have remained unknown, fueling fears and outrage among her relatives and the broader community.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) stated that Khadija’s family had been protesting outside the college for nearly two weeks without any progress in their efforts to locate her. The continued silence about her fate has intensified the frustration and determination of those demanding her safe return.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the BYC accused authorities of harassing protesters instead of working towards her recovery. They reported that photographs of the participants were being taken at the protest site, and some protesters were followed after leaving the sit-in, with attempts made to detain them.
The committee emphasized that such tactics would not break the resolve of the protesters. They asserted that these actions only serve to strengthen their determination to continue the protest until Khadija Baloch and other missing Baloch female students are released.
The BYC called on the government of Balochistan and the state to cease subjecting Baloch students to what they described as “collective punishment.” They demanded the immediate recovery and release of Khadija Baloch, along with other Baloch women who have gone missing.
