He was arrested by Pakistani intelligence agencies in Karachi on 19 July 2020. The protest aims to demand the safe recovery of Sarpara and condemn enforced disappearances in Balochistan. The camp, joined by Sarparah’s family, Baloch political activists in Britain, and others, plans to continue until January 7.
Salia Marri, Taj Muhammad Sarparah’s wife and granddaughter of Khair Bakhsh Marri, founder of the Baloch National Movement, expressed frustration over four years of unsuccessful efforts against Taj Muhammad Sarparah’s illegal detention. She emphasized that he, as a Baloch citizen and businessman, fell victim to forced disappearance by Pakistani state agencies. She highlighted the plight of thousands of Baloch facing similar situations in Pakistan.
The ongoing protests in Islamabad by families of missing persons in Balochistan indicate the gravity of the situation. Salia Marri clarified that the protest in front of the British Prime Minister’s house seeks the intervention of the British government. The goal is to stop Pakistani violence in Balochistan, ensure the recovery of missing persons, and hold Pakistan accountable for human rights abuses and killings in the region.
Salia Marri urged Baloch political activists, human rights advocates, and media in London and beyond to join the sit-in, becoming the voice for the recovery of Taj Muhammad Sarparah and other missing Baloch individuals.
