The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), Baloch Women Forum (BWF), Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-Pajjar) and Balochistan National Party (BNP) have condemned an armed attack on Government Girls’ Degree College in Nushki on 27 October, in which three female students were reportedly injured. In separate statements, the organisations called for a transparent investigation, better medical care for the injured and stronger protection for educational institutions.
The BYC said three masked men entered the college, vandalised the principal’s office, damaged security cameras and opened fire on students. It questioned how the attackers escaped despite a reported FC checkpoint near the college. The committee also condemned the alleged forced closure of Vision Public School in Qadirabad, where armed men reportedly harassed students and threatened consequences if the school reopened.
According to the BYC, the injured students were Maryam, 17, Rukhsana, 18, and Maimoona, 17. Maryam received treatment to remove a bullet, while Rukhsana sustained gunshot wounds to her spine and abdomen and underwent surgery in Quetta. Maimoona, who was shot in the leg, was later discharged from hospital.
The committee linked the attack to wider concerns about the safety of educational institutions, including the earlier killing of Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat. It called for independent investigations into both cases, accountability for those responsible and the reopening of Vision Public School with safety guarantees for students and teachers. It also urged national and international human rights organisations to investigate the incidents.
The BWF said the attack raised serious questions about campus security and the protection of female students. It warned that violence could increase fear among students and families and deter girls from pursuing education in a region already facing significant educational challenges.
BSO-Pajjar said violence and intimidation against educational institutions threaten Balochistan’s educational and social future, citing previous threats against women’s education and pressure to close English-language centres. The BNP also condemned the attack, urging authorities to protect educational institutions and uphold students’ fundamental right to education.
