A pro-independence armed group in Balochistan has claimed responsibility for a grenade attack on a military checkpoint in Quetta. The attack took place in the Hazara Town area on Monday night, according to reports. The group, identifying itself as the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), has reiterated its commitment to the independence of Balochistan through such actions.
BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch issued a statement to the media on Tuesday, confirming that their fighters carried out the attack by hurling a hand grenade at the Pakistani military checkpoint. The assault resulted in serious injuries to one security personnel, highlighting the ongoing violence in the region.
Following the attack, Pakistani military and police forces launched a search operation in the vicinity to apprehend those responsible. Despite the intensified security measures, the BRG fighters reportedly managed to retreat from the area without suffering any casualties themselves.
The group stated that the grenade attack is part of their ongoing campaign against Pakistani security forces and has vowed to continue such operations. Their objective remains the independence of Balochistan, and they see these attacks as a means to advance their cause.
Pakistani authorities have yet to comment publicly on the incident. The attack underscores the persistent instability and insurgent activity in Balochistan, which continues to challenge the central government’s authority in the region.
