The Baloch National Movement (BNM), a pro-independence political organization advocating for the rights of the Baloch people, organized protests in Cologne and Chemnitz, Germany, on December 10, coinciding with International Human Rights Day. The demonstrations aimed to raise awareness of alleged human rights violations occurring in Balochistan.
Demonstrators displayed banners and placards, urging for global intervention against what they termed “systematic oppression” by the Pakistani state. During the protests, speakers decried issues like “enforced disappearances,” “extrajudicial killings,” and the suppression of dissent in Balochistan.
Shar Hassan, president of the BNM Germany Chapter, accused the Pakistani government of violating the basic rights of Baloch citizens. “The state is systematically targeting the Baloch people, subjecting them to atrocities and denying them dignity,” he remarked.
Amjad Murad, finance secretary of BNM Germany, urged the international community to uphold its commitment to human rights protection. “It is time to act and ensure justice for the Baloch people,” he asserted.
Other speakers, including Uzair Baloch and Shay Jami, brought attention to critical issues such as enforced disappearances and resource exploitation in Balochistan. Uzair Baloch alleged that Pakistani forces stage encounters to falsely label innocent individuals as terrorists, while Shay Jami criticized the global community’s silence on the matter. “Despite being raised at global forums, the plight of the Baloch remains ignored,” he said.
Bakhtawar Zahid, a female member of the BNM, highlighted that the brutality in Balochistan represents not isolated incidents but a systematic strategy aimed at suppressing the Baloch freedom movement. She underscored the importance of recognizing the Baloch people’s right to self-determination as crucial for achieving peace and justice.
Other female speakers, including Shalee Zakir and Hamida Baloch, emphasized the broader implications of these human rights violations if left unaddressed. Shalee Zakir warned that ignoring the crisis in Balochistan could have global ramifications, while Hamida Baloch spoke of the emotional and psychological trauma faced by families of the forcibly disappeared. “The pain of waiting for a missing loved one is unimaginable,” she expressed.
