A delegation from the Baloch National Movement (BNM), led by its chairman Dr. Naseem Baloch, met with Grażyna Baranowska, a member of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, in Geneva. During the meeting, the delegation presented comprehensive documents outlining the ongoing enforced disappearances in Balochistan, emphasizing the human rights violations faced by Baloch families. The discussion aimed to raise international awareness and seek accountability for these abuses.
According to a statement from the BNM, the delegation handed over a detailed six-month human rights report along with a dossier on enforced disappearances, compiled by the party’s human rights department, Paank. They also briefed UN officials on the devastating impact these disappearances have on families in Balochistan, which the organization attributes to a state policy implemented by Pakistan to suppress dissent and silence voices in the region.
A BNM spokesperson highlighted that the delegation provided substantial evidence to support their claims, asserting that their international advocacy efforts have increased scrutiny of Pakistan’s human rights record. The spokesperson emphasized that these efforts have compelled Pakistani authorities to respond to questions regarding enforced disappearances before international institutions, shedding light on the ongoing crisis.
The meeting took place ahead of a planned three-day campaign by the BNM in Geneva. The organization announced that its 12th International Balochistan Conference would commence at the Geneva Press Club on September 24. The event will also feature a photographic exhibition, demonstrations, a rally, and meetings with various international organizations to further highlight the plight of Balochistan.
In addition to the Geneva activities, the BNM revealed plans to raise awareness globally through messages displayed on a digital truck in New York City. The organization also intends to hold a protest outside the UN headquarters during the upcoming UN General Assembly session, aiming to draw international attention to the human rights violations in Balochistan and press for meaningful action.
