Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch declares independence as the sole acceptable solution for Balochistan

Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch, leader of the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), emphasized that a new generation of Baloch fighters is employing modern political and military strategies in the ongoing struggle for independence. In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Guardian, he highlighted that the Baloch liberation movement has been active for nearly thirty years, with recent intensifications representing a continuation rather than a departure from past efforts.

Speaking from an undisclosed location, Dr. Nazar noted that Baloch fighters have gained significant experience through prolonged conflict with Pakistani forces. He underscored that the challenging geography of Balochistan and the support of the local Baloch population provide strategic advantages to the movement.

“The war is fought for political objectives. The core aim of the Baloch freedom movement remains our independence,” he stated.

Referring to recent operations like the Baloch Liberation Army’s “Operation Herof 2.0,” Dr. Nazar described these actions as part of a continuous struggle that involves a new generation of fighters who are not only armed but are also embracing modern political tactics and the ideology of Baloch nationalism.

He explained that the BLF and BLA are closely coordinated at the ideological, strategic, and tactical levels. Responding to Pakistani claims that he had been killed or incapacitated, he dismissed such reports as attempts by the Pakistani state to eliminate him and other leaders, which he said have been unsuccessful.

Dr. Nazar detailed the organization’s structured command chain and long-term political strategy, with military tactics adapted based on Pakistani military movements.

On the issue of Balochistan’s rich mineral resources, including rare-earth minerals, oil, gold, and natural gas, he condemned projects like Reko Diq and Saindak. He argued that these projects are mechanisms for exploiting Balochistan’s wealth and called on foreign companies and governments to refrain from investing in mineral exploration and extraction in the region.

“We oppose both the Pakistani colonizers and multinational corporations involved in plundering our resources. I urge them to stay away from Balochistan,” he declared. He warned that investments made in cooperation with Pakistan would be viewed as contributing to the exploitation and strengthening of the Pakistani state, making such companies legitimate targets for the movement.

Dr. Nazar envisioned that once Balochistan becomes independent, its resources would be used for the welfare of the Baloch people and the development of the region as a welfare state.

Addressing allegations of foreign support, he dismissed claims that India backs the Baloch movement as “fake propaganda” by Pakistan. He expressed hope that India would support the Baloch cause politically, diplomatically, and morally, including at international forums such as the United Nations. He characterized the movement as “not merely an armed insurgency but an indigenous national liberation struggle.”

Regarding recent attacks, including a May 24 train assault targeting Pakistani military personnel, Dr. Nazar confirmed BLA fighters carried out the operation, claiming civilians were allowed to escape safely. He accused the Pakistani military of using aerial bombardments in Balochistan, causing civilian casualties, and criticized restrictions on independent media that hinder international awareness of these incidents.

He called on the international community and the UN to hold Pakistan accountable for alleged war crimes in Balochistan.

On the designation of the BLA and its Majeed Brigade as terrorist organizations by the U.S., Dr. Nazar argued that global powers act based on strategic interests and predicted that Washington might reconsider its stance in the future. He also mentioned attempts by China and Pakistan to secure UN sanctions against the BLA, which he said had been opposed by Western countries.

The BLF leader affirmed that his organization maintains access to global legal and political forums supporting self-determination and human rights. He dismissed Pakistani claims that military operations have weakened Baloch armed groups, citing the high number of military campaigns as evidence of the Pakistani military’s struggles. He claimed the movement still enjoys widespread support among the Baloch population and that the region’s difficult terrain favors the fighters.

On issues like enforced disappearances, detention, and extrajudicial killings, Dr. Nazar stated that targeting educated Baloch youths is fueling a new wave of support for independence. He called on the UN to intervene and declare Balochistan an international conflict zone, criticizing Pakistan’s failure to adhere to international law.

He reaffirmed that every nation has the right to resist occupation and colonial rule, and that the Baloch movement has the moral backing of its people, intellectuals, and advocates of self-determination.

When asked if negotiations could occur under certain conditions—such as political autonomy, resource revenue sharing, an end to enforced disappearances, and international oversight—he responded that negotiations would only be possible if international powers guaranteed a Pakistani military withdrawal from Balochistan, providing a safe exit for their forces.

He condemned the Pakistani constitution as ineffective against military, judicial, and executive overreach, stating that the Baloch do not accept any compromises. “Our ultimate goal is a sovereign and independent Balochistan. That is the only acceptable solution now,” he declared.
