According to the Baloch YakJehti Committee (BYC), Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the International Oppressed Peoples Conference shed light on the challenges faced by Balochistan in the global fight against injustices.
During her impactful address at the conference in Islamabad, Dr. Mahrang passionately discussed the severe human rights violations and state violence affecting the Baloch people and other oppressed nations. She emphasized that the conference aimed not only to address the issues faced by the Baloch people but also to encompass the broader context of individuals worldwide experiencing oppression and brutality.
Dr. Mahrang highlighted the persistent conflict in Balochistan over the past 75 years, where political resolutions have often been overshadowed by coercive measures such as military interventions, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, collective punishments, and restrictions on freedom of expression. She underlined the lasting impact of such force and violence on the lives of nearly every citizen in Balochistan.
Under Dr. Mahrang’s leadership, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee has spearheaded a movement that transcends regional boundaries, offering hope to the Baloch people and inspiration to other subjugated nations within the region.
Addressing the term “Baloch Genocide,” Dr. Mahrang refuted claims that it is an exaggerated expression. She pointed to the establishment of a graveyard of unknown mutilated bodies, children searching for their fathers on the streets, collective killings, and mass graves as evidence of the gravity of the situation, urging the international community to acknowledge these atrocities as a form of genocide.
Dr. Mahrang detailed oppressive incidents, including the discovery of mass graves in Khuzdar district in 2014, and highlighted the forced displacement of thousands of families from Balochistan. She stressed the urgent need for human rights organizations to address the plight of these affected people.
The conference also brought attention to stories of families with loved ones subjected to forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Dr. Mahrang emphasized the collective suffering endured when a person is forcibly disappeared, citing examples like Mama Qadir Baloch and Najma Baloch.
She expanded the discussion to include the plight of other minorities, such as the Hazara community facing mass killings, Sindhis, Muhajirs, Shias, Hindus, Christians, political activists, and journalists facing forced disappearances in Punjab.
Dr. Mahrang expressed solidarity with ongoing people’s struggles in the region, including the sit-in in Chaman and the protest in Gilgit-Baltistan. She acknowledged the historic contribution of Baloch women in the ongoing struggle against “Baloch genocide” and called for collective efforts among women from all oppressed nations.
In conclusion, Dr. Mahrang thanked human rights activists and journalists for their role in the movement and appealed for solidarity with the struggles of oppressed nations worldwide. The International Oppressed Peoples Conference aimed to unite oppressed peoples globally and foster solidarity in their struggles, with Dr. Mahrang expressing gratitude to all participants for contributing to its success.
