Paank strongly condemns the extrajudicial killing of 21-year-old Nabeel Baloch, who was shot dead by a state-armed death squad in Tump Bazaar. This tragic incident represents a disturbing pattern of systematic violence carried out by state-aligned armed groups operating with impunity in Balochistan.
Nabeel Baloch, son of Dr. Babat Khan Baloch—a respected academic and faculty member at Tump College—was a promising student with a deep passion for video graphics and aspirations of becoming a successful graphic designer. Despite the region’s ongoing instability, he continued to pursue his education with dedication and hope. His life, like so many others, was cut short in a brutal act of violence that remains unaccounted for.
This killing is not an isolated event. It forms part of a broader campaign of targeted violence that has disproportionately affected young men in Tump and surrounding districts. Paank has documented numerous cases involving enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, torture, and killings by state-supported paramilitary groups and death squads. These violations represent a serious breach of international human rights law, including the right to life, liberty, and security of person.
Paank is gravely concerned by the ongoing human rights crisis in Balochistan and the climate of fear and repression under which communities are forced to live. The lack of transparency, accountability, and access to justice only exacerbates the suffering of families and reinforces the culture of impunity.
We call on the Government of Pakistan to immediately:
Conduct a prompt, impartial, and independent investigation into the killing of Nabeel Baloch and all similar incidents;
Hold accountable those responsible for these extrajudicial executions, regardless of rank or affiliation;
Disband and disarm all state-aligned death squads operating in the region;
Ensure reparations and justice for the victims and their families;
Uphold its international obligations to protect the rights and freedoms of all individuals in Balochistan.
Paank stands in solidarity with the family of Nabeel Baloch and all victims of state-sanctioned violence in Balochistan. We will continue to document and advocate against these grave human rights violations until justice is served.
