A significant protest rally took place in Turbat, the main city of Kech district in Balochistan, highlighting the plight of missing persons and demanding their recovery. The rally attracted a large crowd, including families of missing individuals, women, children, and youth, all united in their call for justice.
The demonstration was primarily focused on the case of Wahid Kambar Baloch, a respected veteran of the Baloch pro-independence movement who has been missing since his reported abduction on July 19 from the Kerman area of Iran. His family and various Baloch nationalist groups allege that Wahid was taken by Pakistani secret agents and is now believed to be in the custody of Pakistani forces, without any fair trial in a court of law.
Participants held placards featuring images of Wahid Kambar and other missing persons, chanting slogans against enforced disappearances. The rally was led by Wahid Kambar’s family members, alongside local residents and political activists.
Addressing the crowd, Wahid Kambar’s daughter, Mahleb Kambar Baloch, made an impassioned plea, stating, “My father has been a part of the Baloch political struggle and has always advocated for Baloch rights. Pakistan has abducted him and is holding him illegally.” She demanded her father’s immediate release and called for a fair trial.
Mahleb also urged international human rights organizations to intervene for her father’s safety, marking him as a political prisoner. The protesters collectively denounced the state’s ongoing enforcement of disappearances and called for Wahid Kambar’s immediate recovery.
Families of other missing persons shared their heart-wrenching stories, criticizing the state’s narrative built through courts and commissions, which they argue fail to deliver true justice. Speakers at the rally condemned state policies that have exacerbated the challenges faced in Balochistan, asserting that such violence has driven many towards armed groups, worsening the instability in the region.
The rally concluded with a unified demand for the government to reveal the whereabouts of Wahid Kambar and other individuals who have fallen victim to enforced disappearances, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in the region.
