Students in Quetta have set up a protest camp outside Bolan Medical College (BMC), demanding the reopening of the college and its hostels, which they allege have been “occupied” by police.
The protest is a collaborative effort by various student organizations from across Balochistan. Demonstrators stated that the camp will remain until their demands are addressed, including the reopening of the college, the release of detained students, and accountability for the alleged police occupation of the hostels.
Student leaders accused the police of conducting unjustified raids on the hostels, arresting students, and disrupting academic activities. One protester remarked, “The police stormed the hostels, detained students, and disrupted the educational environment.”
Additionally, students claimed that the police actions were intended to create divisions between Baloch and Pashtun students. “Educational institutions should be centers of learning and peace, not zones for police operations,” said student leaders.
This protest follows a recent police raid on BMC hostels during which several students were reportedly detained, with witnesses stating that some were injured or rendered unconscious during the operation.
Student organizations have warned that if their demands are not met, they will expand the protest to other areas of Balochistan.
