Ahmad Noorani, a Pakistani journalist based in the US, has reported that two of his brothers were abducted from their home in Islamabad late Tuesday night.
In a social media update, Noorani described how a group forced their way into his residence after his mother refused to open the door. They took both of his brothers to an undisclosed location and confiscated his sister’s phone when she attempted to film the incident.

Noorani also noted that despite his family’s attempts to seek help, local police declined to file a formal complaint regarding the abduction. Journalist Azad Syed confirmed the attack on Noorani’s family on social media and urged fellow journalists to speak out for the victims.
Noorani, the founder of the investigative platform Fact Focus, is recognized for his impactful reporting on influential figures, which has often sparked controversy. He has faced threats in the past, including an attack in 2017 while still in Pakistan, and his wife was threatened in 2021.
Recently, Noorani has also been targeted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which charged him under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly spreading “propaganda” related to the Jaffar Express train attack on March 11.
Currently, the whereabouts of Noorani’s brothers remain unknown, highlighting ongoing concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists in Pakistan.
