All train services operating to and from Quetta have been suspended due to ongoing security concerns in Balochistan. Railway officials confirmed that no trains will operate from Quetta on 10 July 2025, affecting multiple routes in the region. The suspension includes both passenger and freight services, severely impacting transportation and connectivity in the area.
The Jaffar Express (39 Up), which runs from Quetta to Peshawar, and its return service (40 Down) from Peshawar to Quetta, have been canceled for their scheduled departures on 9 and 10 July. Additionally, the Bolan Mail (4 Down), which connects Quetta to Karachi, will also remain halted on 10 July. These cancellations reflect the heightened security situation and the decision to prevent possible incidents on these routes.
Sources indicate that the suspension was initiated following a request from Frontier Corps (FC) officials, who urged railway authorities to temporarily halt operations due to the prevailing security risks in the Quetta division. The region’s authorities have prioritized safety concerns, leading to the suspension of train movements until at least 10 July as a precautionary measure.
Earlier this year, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for hijacking the Jaffar Express and taking over 200 Pakistani military personnel hostage. The group later announced that all captives had been executed after negotiations for a prisoner exchange fell through and military operations resumed. This unprecedented attack, carried out by the BLA’s Majeed Brigade, has caused significant disruption to train services across Balochistan and heightened security tensions in the region.
