A significant protest has erupted in Khuzdar in response to the forcible abduction of Asma Jattak Baloch by an armed group allegedly linked to former Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri. The incident, which occurred last night, has incited widespread anger among local residents, who have organized a sit-in on the main RCD road, effectively blocking traffic for over 12 hours.
The protest has been steadily growing throughout the day, attracting participants from surrounding areas who have come together to demand justice for Asma and the apprehension of her abductors. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the armed group raided a residence in the Police Line area of the Zehri region around 1 AM, subjecting the family, including women and children, to violence. During this attack, Asma was forcibly taken away, and the victims have accused Rahim Bakhsh, a deputy of Sanaullah Zehri, of masterminding the raid.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee Khuzdar Zone has issued a strong condemnation of this brutal act and has expressed unwavering support for the affected family. A spokesperson from the committee has demanded the immediate recovery of Asma and called for stringent actions against all involved in this heinous incident.
Protesters have pledged to persist with their sit-in until their demands are addressed, obstructing the Karachi-Quetta highway and disrupting traffic flows. “We demand justice for the victim, and we will not relent until the authorities take action,” declared the protest organizers. “The abduction of innocent individuals, particularly women, by government-backed death squads must be halted immediately.”
This protest has also shed light on the broader issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, where various government-supported armed groups operate with impunity. These groups are notorious for targeted killings, abductions, and narcotics trafficking, often linked to political factions sanctioned by the Pakistani military.
It is essential to note that this criminal group was previously responsible for the targeted killing of Asma Jattak Baloch’s fiancé, compounding the trauma endured by her family.
Despite numerous appeals for action, authorities have not yet released an official statement addressing the incident. As the sit-in continues, protesters are calling on local communities to unite against this injustice and demand accountability from those responsible.
