Pakistani forces conducted a raid on a house in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. They detained and secretly transferred a young student, Aimal Aurangzeb, in front of his family members to an undisclosed location. As of now, Aimal remains missing, and his whereabouts are unknown. The incident was reported by the victim’s family along with human rights organizations concerned about such cases.
Eyewitnesses and family members described how security personnel arrived in at least six vehicles, entering a residential area of Quetta. They reportedly violated the privacy of the household, intruding into the home’s sanctity, and subjected the family to abuse and torture before forcibly taking Aimal away. The family was left distressed and intimidated by the aggressive manner of the raid.
Aimal Aurangzeb is an eighth-grade student and the elder brother of Fatima Baloch, a prominent child human rights activist who campaigns against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial detentions, and government repression. The family’s concern is heightened by the fact that Aimal, being a minor, appears to have no involvement in any wrongdoing.
The issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan has been a longstanding concern for human rights organizations over the past two decades. Thousands of people are reported to have gone missing in the region, often in cases linked to state security operations. Social circles suggest that Aimal’s only “crime” is being related to Fatima Baloch, who has vocally opposed state oppression, highlighting the risks faced by innocent family members caught in the ongoing struggle for justice.
